Military Working Dogs (MWD) Block 3 Practice Exam

Certification for operational use is done when the dog first completes training and is ready to work, and then it must be renewed every year to ensure ongoing readiness. The initial certification confirms the dog meets the performance and safety standards before deploying in the field, while annual re-certification checks that the dog remains medically fit, behaviorally stable, and capable of performing required tasks with the handler under current conditions. This ongoing process catch any changes in health, temperament, or capability that could affect mission success.

Certifying only at deployment misses the need to verify the dog’s status over time, and certifying every five years is too infrequent for maintaining peak, safety-critical performance. Certification upon retirement doesn’t apply because the dog would no longer be used in operations.
